Learn about how the Institute’s freely available measurement and analytics platform: DNSAI Compass (“Compass”) is providing free, academically robust, independent research on the use of the DNS for phishing and malware. This project provides aggregate and specific (registrar and TLD) level data on the volume of phishing and malware. It also measures mitigation rates and identifies whether the domain has been registered for malicious purposes. How much DNS Abuse is there? Is it distributed evenly across the ecosystem? Is it being mitigated? And how quickly?
Abuse currently sits at the center of a lot of discussions within the industry. As a global and borderless - yet also incredibly scattered and diverse - industry, we’re seeing shifts in overarching policies and directives in an attempt to enhance security, stability, and to reduce abuse. Now, legislation and directives largely aim to prevent things from going wrong in the first place, utilizing various required safeguards, minimum requirements, etc as opposed to dispute resolution which deals with issues after the fact. Considering, again, the global and geographically (and as such, legally and operationally) diverse nature of the industry, how can we also provide some practical tools to aid industry participants in this endeavor?
The fifth and last Nordic Domain Days content segments focuses is yet another traditional one, TECH!. This segment takes a deep-dive into a multitude of technical topics such as the recent updates on the DNS, Registry Operations and much much more.”

The DNS resolver was initially designed with a straightforward objective: to convert user-friendly webpage names into the corresponding server IP addresses. However, its potential extends beyond simple name resolution. Can it also serve as a layer of protection? If so, how? Recently, the European Commission initiated the DNS4EU project that includes private firms, governmental bodies, and academic institutions. The project aims to develop the next generation of EU-located protective DNS services. Let's explore the mechanics of such a service, delve into the critical elements of Threat Intelligence, and understand why it is a very effective and easily distributable solution against threats out there.
